The activities are written in a self-contained format. Each description outlines the game and its purpose, objectives, equipment needs, organisation, progressions and key coaching points.

Typically there is little organisation or equipment required and activities are written to allow for flexibility and interpretation.

There are some key tenets that you must consider when delivering this material:

  • You must make the content suitable to the age and ability level of your audience. This may require ‘dummying down’ some of the material in instances where your goals are simply not being met

  • You must deliver the content in a positive psychological climate. This means that you must reinforce what each person does well and not what they do not do. In the instance where things are not going to plan, re-direct your attention to something that the participant likes to do and can do well. Focus on catching them doing something good

  • The value and enjoyment of each activity rest on the ability of you, the coach, to deliver the material in an enthusiastic manner. Be the best version of yourself and settle for no imitations

  • Physical and emotional safety is a key component to creating a playful, productive coaching environment
